Bakewell tart is a wonderfully tasty thing – the balance between all of the different levels to cautiously weighted to ensure the perfect bite every time. The base layer of a great Bakewell tart is always crunchy shortcrust pastry. This is followed by tart raspberry jam, which is sharp and rich in equal measure. On top of that is a thick, tasty layer of franzipan, a tasty custard that’s made with a range of different ingredients, each of which is a little tastier than the last. Finally, each tart is finished with sliced almonds, leading to wonderful texture and delightful flavour.
